As in the first entry in our blog - another treasure from Thomas Krüger's Bürgermeister series.
It seems unbelievable in this day and age that this barrel - also purchased from John Barrett (Bristol Spirits) - found its way to Rendsburg in Holsteiner Straße.
There, customers in the Krüger family's delicatessen shop were able to sample the rum directly from the barrel - and get a bottle filled by hand if they liked it.
All this took place in the rooms where the new auction with rare rum bottlings is starting a new era in the company's history.
The rum was distilled on 25 January 1975 - in the legendary Double Wooden Pot Still ( Vat Still ).
A unique drop which, after a short storage period on site, was taken to an English warehouse where it matured for many years.
It was bottled at cask strength at 56.9% vol.
The Port Morant was bottled in both 0.35 litre (205 units) and 0.7 litre (50 units) bottles. Due to the bottling process described above, the colour varies slightly.
The further the barrel was emptied at the time - the darker the rum that was bottled.
The rum is very complex and intense. Notes of liquorice, coffee, dark dried fruit and lots of roasted aromas.
Carried by a slight residual sweetness, it is nevertheless quite balanced despite its strength.
A dram for an extended winter evening.
We wish you lots of fun and success with your bid - this piece of liquid Demerara history is one of the best Port Morant bottlings from 1975 - and definitely one of the rarest!
